Matthias Wasinger

Mag. (FH) Matthias Wasinger, Ph. D. is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Defence Horizon Journal. He joined the Armed Forces 2001 and followed his training as Infantry Officer. From 2013 to 2016, he attended the Austrian Armed Forces Joint General Staff Course, followed by assignments in the Austrian Armed Forces and the Austrian Ministry of Defence. 2019/2020, he attended the US Army Command and General Staff Course in Fort Leavenworth/ Kansas. He served in various operational deployments under the umbrella of the UN, EU and NATO. He holds a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Legal Studies from the University of Vienna. Matthias is author of several publications published in books, newspapers, journals, and periodicals. 

Ursula Werther-Pietsch

PD Mag. Dr. Ursula Werther-Pietsch, co-editor of the TDHJ Special Edition, Lecturer of International Law and international Relations. Teaches at Universities of Vienna and Graz, Diplomatic Academy, and the Bundeswehr University Munich. Working at the Austrian Ministry for European and International Affairs, served as  Senior Visiting Fellow at the National Defense Academy, at the Bureau of the Legal Advisor and the Federal Chancellery. Advisor of the Academic Forum for Foreign Policy and Member of the Scientific Commission of the Ministry of Defence. Founder of the magazine Juristische Ausbildung und Praxis. Published widely, including on human rights, international crisis and conflict management, Women Peace and Security, UN Collective Security System. Werther-Pietsch studied Law, Architecture and French.

Comhall Fanning

Comhall Fanning graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Sociology and German from Trinity College Dublin in 2020. He spent one year working as Deputy Features Editor for the newspaper Trinity News and has also published academic research on migration and citizenship in the Trinity Social & Political Review. He has a strong interest in migration and completed his dissertation on first-person accounts of migration written in German by migrants from the former Yugoslavia to Austria and Germany. He is currently working as an English Teacher and freelance editor and copywriter in Vienna.

Rebecca Van Pamel

Rebecca Van Pamel studied at Williams College, where she graduated with highest honors in history and German. She has years of experience in research and has edited multiple publications. Rebecca is currently based in Vienna. 

Barlow Najima

 

Assistant Editor 

Barlow Najima graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Consultancy in 2020 at the University of Applied Sciences in Wiener Neustadt. She has gathered experience in both research and copy-editing over the years through volunteering and work placements. Currently, she is based in Vienna.
