Peer Board Member
Major-General Johann Frank, born 1969, is the Director of the "Institute for Peace Support and Conflict Management" at the National Defense Academy in Vienna. From 2014 until 2020 he was "Security Political Director" of the Ministry of Defence and Member of the National Security Council. Frank is Member of the Scientific Commission of the Defence Ministry and Corresponding Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the European Forum Alpbach. Since 2015 he has been Editor of the book series "Annual Security Political Foresight" of the Austrian MoD. Frank holds a doctorate in political science from the University Vienna and graduated as "Master of Advanced Studies Security Policy and Crisis Management" from the ETH Zurich. Frank is married and father of two children.

An innovative security policy needs both the courage to think ahead, even against majority opinions and the modesty to view one's ideas as proposals, which need to be examined, discussed and recognized by the general public, experts and the public. In this sense, our ambitious TDHJ project should be a platform for a new way of thinking about security and a forum for critical discussions.
